2,300 Square Bales

The last couple weeks have been full-swing into haying season--and of course the whole family is involved! It was also a great time to snap an updated family picture :)

On July 27th, it was a race against the rain that was predicted at midnight!

It was the hottest day of the year at the time, reaching 31C/87.8F and no wind. Dad made 1,500 square bales throughout the day and that afternoon we swung about 700 onto the highboy and gooseneck, then rushed back inside, cleaned up, had a 2 hour music recital, filled our faces, then rushed back out around 9pm, unloaded the trailers and picked up the remaining 800 squares dotting the field!

Thankfully Dad was able to help stack some bales using his accumagrapple.

1:30am--DONE. We filled our faces with Brook's kefir and Amber's roasted nuts and seeds.

3:30am--DOWNPOUR. "Whew!" Yes. We were happy--and just a bit tuckered out :)

The next day the bales were stacked in the cover-all - perfectly dry! Hallelujah!

Then... a few days later: heading down to get a couple more loads before another downpour...

This time we had a good old friend joining us, so we got two trailers loading at one time and it was a race to see who'd fill theirs first! (Although it wasn't that fair because one trailer was nearly twice the size of the other!)
